SUMMARY:Makmur Charity Sale 2018
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating community kinship and culinary heritage\, all for a good cause!\nThis year\, AN@S’ volunteer bakers from the local Arab community will gather at Chef Zan’s training kitchen to lovingly bake Kueh Makmur Kurma (stuffed date cookies) for our Ramadhan Appeal charity sale. \nEvery year\, local Arab households will usher the Eid or Hari Raya Puasa by baking these traditional date cookies. The dough is made from wheat (or semolina) and butter stuffed with date fillings\, baked and dusted with powdered sugar for a delicious melt-in-your-mouth dessert\, which is a perfect reward after a month-long fasting. The recipe is inspired from the Middle Eastern dessert known as Maamoul. It is an initiative very dear to our hearts sharing home-grown recipe and re-living memories of our childhood together. \nThese cookies have evolved in southeast asia with a local twist\, filled with peanuts and known as Kueh Makmur Kacang (peanut-filled cookies). AN@S Kueh Makmur retains the original version with dates stuffing to stay authentic to great grandmothers’ recipes using only high quality ingredients. \n\n\n\nBox of 30 Cookies @ $25 each\n\n\nBox of 50 Cookies @ $45 each\n\n\n\nAll sale proceeds will be channelled to support AN@S’ not-for-profit causes and programmes. \nOrder your Kueh Makmur now before 1st June via WhatsApp\, SMS or call 9664 8924 (Nor) or 9649 1872 (Khadijah).\n

SUMMARY:Islamic Parenting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Parenting has always been one of the enigmas of life. All parents strive to be the best parent possible and yet many feel that they aren’t the best. \nThe truth is: there is no such thing as a perfect parent. However\, that shouldn’t stop us from striving to be better and to constantly evolve\, grow and educate ourselves\, by any means necessary\, in order to be the best we can.\nIn the current age of now\, our children are being exposed to many ideologies\, cultures and thinking thanks to the mass globalized culture of the Internet. Viral videos abound purporting untruths and are accepted without question or hesitation by all those who watch it\, spreading false truths such as Islamophobia\, racism and negative beliefs. Being the best parent we can be has never been more important nor urgent. \nJoin us\, in this faith-based workshop\, as we discuss the challenges and issues we are facing as parents and share experiences\, reminders\, tips and ideas\, on how to help ourselves be the best to the most important people in our lives – our children. \nADMISSION IS FREE but REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED\nGenerous contributions are welcome to support UNHCR Yemen Humanitarian Relief Efforts

SUMMARY:The Colours that Heal: The Hidden Stories of Life as a Refugee
DESCRIPTION:Images of refugee children drowning and people trapped to their deaths filled our screens in recent weeks. Official UNHCR figures list the number of refugees worldwide at 13 million. In Lebanon alone there are approximately half a million Palestinian refugees currently residing in 11 camps across the country. More than 50% of these refugees are women and half are below the age of 25. \nThe physical difficulties of being forced to flee from their homeland and settle in camps can be seen from the visible injuries and cramped living conditions at these camps. Resolving these difficulties are a priority to most NGOs who are providing help from all over the world. However\, the effort to heal their long-term mental and emotional scars has become less of a priority due to lack of awareness and expertise. \nThe Arab Network@Singapore is pleased to present two experts in the field of mental therapy who will share their first-hand experiences working with refugees. Come and join us to listen to real life cases and find out how you can help.

SUMMARY:Leyaali elKhayr 2013 - Night of Benevolence
DESCRIPTION:The Arab Network @ Singapore (AN@S) proudly presents Leyaali el-Khayr 2013 – a Charity Gala Dinner in aid of: \n•           Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) \n•           Autism Resource Centre (ARC) \n•           Maulid Memorial Scholarship Fund Board (LBKM) \nThe above beneficiaries were selected because their causes are aligned with AN@S’ main missions of education and empowerment. In addition\, the AN@S Leyaali el-Khayr Organising Committee has specifically chosen the 3 lesser-known causes for this event as these organisations have very little exposure in Singapore yet the work they do is so impactful to the lives of the disadvantaged. \nThrough this charity gala dinner\, AN@S aims to present Singaporeans with an opportunity to experience the sights\, sounds and tastes of the Arab culture and traditions. This will be a night where diners can experience the positive and beautiful elements of the Arab culture. The Arabs are well-known for their generosity and graciousness to guests. Therefore\, by combining the gala dinner with the charity element\, the AN@S Leyaali el-Khayr 2013 will be an effective embodiment of AN@S’ aims and objectives. The Leyaali el-Khayr Charity Gala Dinner 2013 is also the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself with the Arab culture in all its splendour while enjoying sumptuous Arabic cuisine to give you a truly Arabic experience at your own doorstep. \nThe event itself will start with a bang when the Guest of Honour\, Speaker of Parliament\, Mdm Halimah Yacob\, will be given a traditional Yemeni welcome by the Arabian Knights dance and music troupe. During the dinner itself\, guests will be entertained by musicians\, singers\, dancers and fashion models including an international violinist\, Maher Salamé\, who hails from Lebanon. These performances will showcase Arab music\, dance and artistic expressions that will surely captivate and entertain all guests. Weaving through the programme will be introductions to each of our beneficiary organisations ensuring that the guests will not only be aware of their noble causes but also will get to know the challenges and issues facing low income students\, the visually handicapped and also autistic children. As a bonus\, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable piano recital by the visually impaired child protégé\, Miss Adelyn Koh. The night will hopefully end with a bigger bang as we will be auctioning off all the exquisite items displayed at the foyer of the ballroom during registrations between 7pm to 7.30pm. The auction is where AN@S hope to garner as much funds as possible for the three deserving beneficiaries. \nTickets can be bought at $165 nett per seat (inclusive of Dinner for One) by emailing thearabnetwork@gmail.com or call Khadijah at 9649 1872\, Farah at 9387 7774\, Fauziah at 9247 4424 or Nor at 9664 8924. \nPurchase of Corporate Tables are also available at $10\,000\, $5\,000 and $3\,000. \nAbout the Performers \nThe first classical-electro-oriental violin cross-over artiste\, Maher Salamé is one of the most talented figures in the Arab music industry.
